Alviani x Ancient
C1760 Townhouse, New York City
Alviani x Ancient was a luminous display of light, metal and stone, juxtaposing the radical abstract sculpture and jewelry of Op artist Getulio Alviani with Roman and Graeco-Roman marble and bronze sculptures spanning three millennia.
Drawn from the artist’s private estate and the most prestigious institutions, many of Alviano’s pieces were exhibited in public for the first time and demonstrated a similar approach to form, space and motion of the ancients.
Together, these works offered a distinctive tour through the doors of perception and the issues that have preoccupied artists for millennia—how to craft material and form and harness the power of light to create illusions that trick the eye and mind.
